Our Activities during 2008

2 new members joined our committee this year and it was a year which found us all plent to do.

We had many interesting demonstrations with 2 open demonstrations. The first by Lee Berrill with his “Let’s be Different” which it certainly was, with his designs all in different tints and tones of orange. The Christmas open demonstration was by David Fawcett-Ropner and again entranced us all.

We helped out with Flower Festivals at Breaston Methodist Church, United Reform in Long Eaton, Stapleford Methodist Church and again at Sawley. The highlight of the year was our participation in the wonderful Southwell Flower Festival in August.

We visited Derek Bridges in Hebden Bridge for a lovely lunch and flower demonstration and then later in the year visited Jacqueline Iddon, again for lunch and visit around her garden. Her husband is a sculpture and we also enjoyed looking at these.

A visit was also made to a local garden in Swingate.

The highlight of the year was our visit to the Kersthappening in Bruges at the end of November. A lovely weekend enjoyed by 43 of our members and friends.

During the year we raised £500 for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance, which will be presented during our March meeting in 2009

We held two workshops the first was a Hand Tied Bunch with Linda Smith where all the foliage and flowers were supplied and proved to be very interesting.

Our second workshop was taken by Denise Tasker and her subject was Twiddling with Twigs as we had seen during our visit last year to Amsterdam. Again a very interesting subject.

We held three practice evenings during the year which were taken by our own members.

We would like to thank our own members for their support during the year and to thank those who gave Vote of Thanks and helped out with our Sales tables etc.
